Sacramento’s downtown has the distinction, from the photographic if not the economic standpoint, of having quiet spaces to its immediate north and west. The former Southern Pacific railyard site to the north receives a lot of attention in the media, but the best view, and probably the greatest economic potential, is across the county line (and the Sacramento River) in the seemingly forever-becoming city of West Sacramento. These photographs were taken from a bridge on Jefferson Boulevard in West Sacramento just south of Highway 80. As I ran up to catch the golden light, I had to slow down to make sure broken beer bottles didn’t pierce my shoes.
